Since the launch of M.Tech/ME Regular programmes in 1992 and M.Tech/ME (Modular) programmes in 2005, the Academic Cell is actively involved in the conduct (admission and examination) of these long term programmes. Moreover, the institute has been recognized as a 'Research Centre' by Panjab University, Chandigarh (in 2006) as well as by Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar (Punjab) (in 2005) for pursuing research work leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy i.e. Ph.D., as such the Academic Cell is involved in the conduct of interviews of candidates (including under QIP Poly Scheme of AICTE, New Delhi, INSPIRE etc.) for their enrolment and registration to Ph.D. programmes, conduct of Ph.D. course work, and final viva-voce examination. In addition, the Academic Cell also undertakes activities related to publication of 'Journal of Engineering & Technology Education', conduct of meetings of 'Academic Council', 'Right to Information Act, 2005' and Extension Services and Consultancy. The Academic Cell has one photocopier, five Computers equipped with printers, scanners and internet connectivity. The Academic Cell at present has one faculty, four administrative staff members in position.

  1. ME and Ph.D. Programmes

    • Preparation of Brochure/prospectus and advertisements for inviting applications for admission to M.Tech/ME (both Modular & Regular) and Ph.D. programmes and as well as under QIP (Poly) scheme of AICTE, New Delhi including screening of applications, counseling of candidates, registration and enrollment.
    • Conduct of interviews/meetings of Internal/RDC in respect of enrolment/ registration of students to Ph.D. programmes (for PU, Chandigarh & PTU, Jalandhar) and coordinating conduct of Ph.D. Viva-voce examination.
    • Preparation of Academic Calendar in respect of M.Tech/ME Programmes.
    • Liasioning work with university for examination work, results and convocation, deposit of Annual university charges under various heads.
    • Conduct of University Examination including filling up of examination forms, preparation of date sheets for end-semester/spell university examinations, preparation of duty list and seating plans for conduct of university examination, issue of admit cards, processing of applications for Extension in submission of Thesis.
    • Coordinating Evaluation of Answer-sheets of University End Semester/spell examination and Preparation of Result for onward submission to Panjab University, Chandigarh.
    • Preparation of seat matrix and institute profile for DASA.
    • Issue of Fee slips to ME and Ph.D. students and maintenance of their fee receipts.
    • Issue of circulars for Mid-semester examinations as well as various circulars received from universities and other agencies.
    • Receipt of Detailed Marks Certificates and degrees from university and issue/dispatch to students.
    • Issue of identity cards and Maintaining of Personal Files of students, issue of income tax certificates, bonafide etc. to students and release of Refundable security.
    • Preparation of Budget Proposal in respect of Scholarship of GATE qualified candidates as well as under QIP (Poly) scheme of AICTE.
    • Preparation of Admission Trends/Statistics in respect of ME/Ph.D. programmes for MHRD/UGC/PU.
    • Consolidating list of candidates for Academic Awards and Dr. SP Luthra Memorial Gold Medal for presentation during Annual Day celebrations.
    • Liasioning with AICTE regarding QIP (Poly) admissions, budget, admissions.
    • Coordination of Affiliations activities with PU.
    • Coordination of Approval process with AICTE including preparation of Mandatory Disclosure and Extension of Approval. 
    • Organizing blood donation camp every year in collaboration with department of transfusion medicine, PGI, Chandigarh.

  2. Academic Council Meetings

    • Preparation of agenda papers, and circulation to members
    • Conduct of Academic Council meetings and preparation of minutes; and circulation to members

  3. Right To Information Act, 2005
  4. The Right to Information Act, 2005 empowers citizens to get information from any 'public authority'. The Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) of a public authority plays a pivotal role in making the right of a citizen to information a reality. The Act casts specific duties on him and makes him liable for penalty in case of default. It is, therefore, essential for CPIO to study the Act carefully and understand its provisions correctly. Following aspects should particularly be kept in view while dealing with the applications under the Act.

    Information is any material in any form. It includes records, documents, memos, emails, opinions, advices, press releases, circulars, orders, logbooks, contracts, reports, papers, samples, models, data material held in any electronic form. It also includes information relating to any private body which can be accessed by the public authority under any law for the time being in force.

    • As CPIO, providing requisite information to people; uploading quarterly report in CIC website; coordinating inspection of documents by citizens; and hearing of appeals with CIC/SIC; Replying to e-mails and phone calls in this regard.

  5. Journal of Engineering and Technology Education(Two issues every year since 2007)

    • Inviting papers and sending to experts for review; informing the contributors for acceptance/modifications, if any.
    • Typesetting, printing of two issues, Dispatch of copies to contributors and subscribers.
    • Maintaining accounts of subscribers including renewal; Sending letters for renewal of subscription.
    • Disbursement of honorarium to paper reviewers.
