ABOUT : NITTTR Chandigarh Library
The Library at
the NITTTR Chandigarh strives to support the institute’s march
towards its vision – "To dynamically respond, through an
integrated package of Research and Development, Education and Training
and Extension Services, to the needs of Technical and Vocational
Education, Industry and Community to meet the challenges of advances in
Technology, taking into account the impact of modern Communication
Technology." It endeavors to connect brilliant faculty and students to
the knowledge and state-of the-art of their disciplines, and thereby
strengthens the aspirations and expectations of the research and
teaching work at NITTTR Chandigarh.

Library Resources
The Library has developed
an excellent collection of books, journals and non-book material in
science, engineering, technology, humanities, social sciences and
management. It maintains separate collections of Reference Books,
Standards, Pamphlets, Bound volumes of journals, Technical Reports,
Theses, Compact Discs and Microforms. The total collection of library

The Central Library is housed in an
independent first floor of three-storied building with a carpet area of
over 10,000 sft. and is located in the Administrative Block. The

Circulation and Membership
Category of Membership and Loan Period
All students, faculty
members and employees of the Institute are entitled for the membership
of the Library. Their entitlements, in terms of number of books (from
general collections) that they can borrow and the permissible loan
period.

Circulation Rules
-
General books are issued to all eligible members as per their entitlements.
- Reference books, bound volumes, pamphlets and standards are issued only to following members.
Faculty Members and Equivalent Staff Members
- One reference books or one bound volumes or one reference book and one bound volume of journal for one day.
- One loose
issue of journal other than the latest against a prescribed form (for
overnight borrowing) between 4.30 to 5.00 pm should be returned before
10.00 hrs. next day.
- Two standards14 days.

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR ALL THE READERS/MEMBERSHIP
Thesis, dissertations, CDs are not lent out of the library. The readers should check the book thoroughly for missing pages, chapters, pictures etc., while borrowing the book. No book in damaged condition will be accepted from the reader. Mutilated or spoiled books will have to be replaced by the borrower. Reader can claim books (reserve) already issued, at the circulation counter. Loss of book must be reported immediately. For the rules for replacement of lost book kindly contact the Acquisition/Circulation Section. Claimed books are kept reserved for the claimant for 3 days from the date of return by previous borrower. Books are reissued only if there are no claims. The borrowing facility can be withdrawn or restricted in case of misbehavior or misuse of the library.

Reference and Consultation
Reference
The Library maintains a separate
reference collection consisting of encyclopedias, dictionaries,
handbooks, technical data, almanacs, atlases, bibliographies, CD -ROMs,
etc. The Reference Section renders short and long range reference
service. Reference book marked by “R” and report reference
are marked “RR” and conference proceedings marked as
“PR”. Readers may approach the Reference Desk for
information or any assistance in the use of the Library Collections and
Services.
Consultation Facilities for Casual Users
Faculty, students and researchers
from Government-funded educational institutions and organizations are
allowed to refer the Library against introduction letters from their
respective institutions.
Inter-Library Loan
The Library offers inter-library
loan service to its users for the books and periodicals not available
in the institute Library by procuring them from other libraries within
Chandigarh. The NITTTR Library, in turn, also lends its resources to
the libraries of other government and academic institutions on
reciprocal basis.
The document procurement services is also made available from NISCAR/
INSDOC, British Library Lending Division or other document delivery
services if the user is willing to bear the expenses involved.
Photocopying Facility
The Xeroxing
facility in the Library is extended to the users within the premises of
Library. The Library Xeroxing facility operates from 9 A.M. to 5.00
P.M.
This facility is extended to the institute faculty/staff free of cost.
The other are charged Rs 1/- per page by the Media Center.

IT Infrastructure in NITTTR Library
The NITTTR, Chandigarh
Library is fully computerized using Alice for Windows 5.46, an
integrated multi-user library management system software package. The
package supports all in-house operations of the Library. The system
consists of modules on Acquisition, technical processing, management,
circulation, periodical, stock checking and OPAC . A complete
bibliographic record of book collection in the Library are available in
the Library database and is accessible through the Library OPAC. The
database of books available in the Library is being updated on
day-to-day basis with details of recently acquired books through the
book acquisition and management module. The records of eligible members
are created when they apply for the membership of the Library. The
entire collection and services in the Library are searchable through
the OPAC. Two PCs are placed in the user's area to access OPAC.
Bar Code-based Circulation System
The Library uses bar-code
technology for computerized circulation system. Every document in the
Library (except bound volumes of journals, patents) bear a bar code tag
that is used for its circulation. Similarly, all categories of users
have bar-coded identity cards. The Library software has in built
in-house facilities for generation of bar coding of books and patron
cards.
Computing Infrastructure in the Library
The library has one server, 9 PCs
fully networked and computing accessories to cater to the needs of
Library computerization. Each Section is equipped with one PC. 2 PCs
are exclusively earmarked for the users to access Library OPAC.
Electronic Journals
The Library is planning to subscribe the on line journals through INDEST Consortia in the coming financial year.
CD ROM Library

The CD-ROMs received
along with books/journals are available in the Circulation Section and
the facility can be availed from 9.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on all working
days.
