Broad Objectives of the Institute

To provide professional education and training for teaching engineering and technology disciplines in technical institutions for advancement of learning, towards promoting excellence in technical education and industry.

To strive for continuous improvement in instruction and research in engineering and technology disciplines and research management of technical education.

To actively support the growth and quality improvements of technical education in the country through involvement in activities at national and state level.

Operational Objectives

The above broad objectives translated into the operational objectives are as follows:

Training faculty and staff of technical institutions and working professionals from industry both within the country and from other
developing countries through long, modular and short education and training programmes

To foster and promote research in :
 
Improving classroom and laboratory techniques;
Developing understanding of teaching;
All aspects of curriculum development and testing

To prepare and supply, whereever necessary teaching aids, instructional material including filmstrips technical films and other aids to technical institutions; 

To associate the institute with councils and other academic bodies of technical education in the region, regarding curriculum development, admission procedures and examination reforms;

To collaborate with institute and/or organizations in India and abroad that have similar objectives and functions;

To take initiative in improving technical education; and

To collaborate with industries in the region in formulating training programmes of mutual interest.
