Chandigarh is the best-planned city in India, with architecture which is world-renowned, and a quality of life, which is unparalleled. As the capital of the states of Punjab and Haryana and the Union Territory, it is a prestigious city. It is located at 270 km north-west of New Delhi, well-planned and one of the fastest growing metroplotian cities of modern India is hub of R&D , academic and industrial institutions including Semi-Conductor Complex Ltd (SCL), Terminal Ballistic Research Lab (TBRL), Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO), Snow & Avalanche Studies Establishment (SASE), Post Graduate Institute of Medical Educations and Research (PGIMER), National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER) etc.

NITTTR is located in this beautiful city. Government of India established four Regional Technical Teachers' Training Institutes (now National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research, NITTTR) at Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai and Kolkata in 1967. The Institute at Chandigarh is one of these four NITTTRs, started in collaboration with Royal Netherlands Government (upto 1974). It was designed to meet the requirements of developing polytechnic education in the northern region covering the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and Union Territory of Chandigarh. The Institute is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and is managed by a Board of Governors.
