Excellence in teaching, research and technology development is the vision of the department of Computer Science and Engineering. Department of Computer Science and Engineering since its establishment in 1982, progressed steadfastly to its present status of being reckoned as a leader in Computer Science and Engineering education. The department is currently having six Computer Laboratories. All laboratories are equipped with high end computers along with required software. Besides this the department is equipped with high end servers and related networking equipment to provide the internet connectivity in the whole campus. The department also maintains the wired and wireless connectivity in the Institute premises as well as residential campus. Various software related to Multimedia, Web Application Development, Network Simulation, Digital Image Processing, Cloud Computing, Databases and other Application software are available with the department.
Department is actively involved in conducting short term training programmes in the upcoming areas such as Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Python Programming, Cyber Security, Penetration Testing and Malware Analysis, Cloud Computing, MATLAB Programming, Scilab Programming etc. for the faculty and staff of Polytechnics and Engineering colleges. The Department also offers Master of Engineering (Regular & Modular) in Computer Science & Engineering for teachers of Polytechnics, Engineering Colleges, Officials of Directorate of Technical Education & industry professionals. In the year 2020, the department started ME CSE (Specialization in IOT). Further, department also offers Ph.D. programme in the area of Image processing, Wireless Network, Mobile Adhoc Networks, Network Security, Cloud Computing etc.
The department completed two sponsored projects from MeitY, New Delhi and AICTE New Delhi respectively. The department also completed one MODROB Project sponsored by AICTE in 2019.Under these projects, the department established Advanced Cyber Security Laboratory and IOT Laboratory.

Recognizing the need to provide professionally trained teachers and administrators for the technical education system and also to offer professional development opportunities to working technical and training personnel in the industry, NITTTR Chandigarh started offering Master of Engineering Programmes since 1992. The focus of M.E. Computer Science & Engineering is to make the students employable in India and abroad, to develop the ability of research, to enable the students to progress in collaboration with industries and other technical institutions for their research prospects. Above all to provide an opportunity to show team spirit in working leadership skill, communication skill and management of human resources.
- Master of Engineering Programme in CSE (Modular)
Towards facilitating quality and qualification enhancement of faculty in technical institutes who hold a Bachelor’s degree in their respective disciplines and aspire to enhance their qualifications, the institute designed and developed a new path breaking system and approached AICTE and Panjab University, Chandigarh for approval of Master of Engineering Modular Programmes. With approvals secured, the department also started offering the modular programme in M.E. Computer Science & Engineering since 2005.

Recognizing the need to provide professionally trained post graduate engineers in the upcoming areas like Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, NITTTR Chandigarh is starting Master of Engineering Programmes with specializations from this current academic year 2020-21. CSE department is started to offer Master of Engineering Programme in CSE with Specialization in IoT affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh and recognized by AICTE. The Admission is open to all since 2020.

1.) Project entitled “AICTE Share and Mentor Institutions (Margdarshan) Scheme"
Status : In Progress

2.) Project entitled “Establishment of Advance Cyber Security Laboratory for Technical Teachers Training” has been sponsored by Ministry of IT, New Delhi.
Status : Completed on 30.09.2021
The department has received grant of Rs. 62.0 lacs from Ministry of Information Technology to establish Advance Cyber Security Lab on 08/07/2019. Under this project the department provided training in various topics of Cyber Security to teachers of Polytechnic and Engineering Colleges as well as hands-on-experience on open source forensic tools. 3.) Project entitled “Securing Billion of Things-SEBOT"
Status : Completed
The department has received grant of Rs. 14.82 lacs from AICTE on 08/03/2019 under the scheme of RPS. Supervisor: Prof. Maitreyee Dutta
4.) Project entitled “Establishment of Cyber Security and Forensic Training Facility for Technical Teachers Training” has been sponsored by Ministry of IT, New Delhi.
Status : Completed on 31.03.2016
The department has received grant of Rs. 45.65 lacs from Ministry of Information Technology to establish a Cyber Security Lab. Under this project the department provided training in various topics of Cyber Security to teachers of Polytechnic and Engineering Colleges as well as hands-on-experience on open source forensic tools. The duration of the project is 2 years.
5.) Project entitled “Emergency Vehicle Pre-emption“ has been sponsored by Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration
Status : Completed
The Department along with Electrical department received a grant of Rs. 2 lakhs for this project to provide continuous movement for ambulances in emergency situations(2016-2017).

NETWORK ADMINISTRATION
The department maintains and coordinates internet services to entire institute, i.e.,
- Wired and Wireless connectivity
- Maintaining 1 Gbps Internet Connectivity, provided through NKN by Government of India.
Maintenance of computer and other peripherals, website and intranet server is looked after by the department. Also, the department coordinates online submission of the whole institute details in AICTE Web Portal every year.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT
The department has produced a large number of instructional materials both print and non-print, for the benefit of teachers and students of technical institutions. They are mentioned below:

To mention a few of the important materials, they are : Digital Signal Processing, CloudSim simulator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Php and Mysql, Java, Visual Basic etc.
